What is Zam's Quest? (Teacher)

Zam’s Quest is a unique standards-based curriculum for 5th through 8th grade students that engages, empowers and activates kids to learn about nature and take action to address local conservation issues.  In four sequential units, Zam’s Quest moves kids along a learning continuum.  Using the time-tested, role play technique students are able to:  understand different points of view in a conservation issue, successfully analyze an issue and discuss solutions, understand the complexity of today’s problems, and personally take action on a local conservation dilemma.

Kids Learn Science and Much More

As kids get involved in the curriculum, teachers are able to help them develop leadership skills, real life problem-solving skills and project planning skills in a fun, integrated way.  As they work with adult institutions on conservation issues, kids become comfortable and competent being “at the table” with adults discussing and planning solutions.

Teacher Support is Ongoing

Teacher training is provided as a part of the curriculum. A monthly e-newsletter and on-line teacher bulletin boards provide community, tips and info for teachers. Teachers with local Conservation Mentors may have ongoing access to local experts.

What Teachers Say about Zam’s Quest
Zam’s Quest is used in public, private and special education schools to high acclaim.  Teachers report it is the kind of curriculum they are looking for to engage kids’ minds and creativity, and most report they need to do nothing to adapt the curriculum to better meet their needs.
